01. The Challenge and The Fundamental approaches

A couple who were about to get married very soon, had just bought their new house and even had their garden built recently, but they wanted to rebuild it without having used it at all. Both of them were working very hard. Their work schedules were intense, and they were about to get married and move into their new home in a short period of time. We didn’t have much time. They found me through a friend who said, 'If you want a good job, find Sevtap and leave everything to her, and don’t worry about the rest.' We explained what we would do and our designs, sketched them, and showed them images similar to what we had in mind. In the end, we quickly agreed and started working. Based on the first decisions we made, they left everything to us and trusted us.

he house was built on a slope with a gradual incline. The only usable garden space was the side yard. The biggest problem in the side garden was that there were three green areas, but they were incredibly sloped. The construction company had built some stone retaining walls and stairs on the side yard so that the house could be settled, but the green areas were left in a very sloped and unusable state for the homeowners. The kitchen had access to the side yard, but at that time, it wasn’t possible to use the garden.

We needed to use our time wisely and efficiently. We had to implement our correct and impressive design quickly, with high quality. We needed to create flat green areas in the garden where in the future, their children could play, and adults could sit and relax.

02. The implementations and The Solution

We had to quickly prepare the list of needs and materials and make the orders at the right time. We could easily do this because all of our tasks—irrigation system, lawn installation, plant planting, soil application, woodwork, natural stone applications, etc.—were done by our own team, and we had full control. Since we managed everything ourselves, organizing the work was easier. Of course, this is only possible if you know your job well and can do the scheduling and timing correctly. Working this way has always given me an advantage. We placed all the basic orders for the required soil, wood materials, sod, plant orders, dividers, natural stones, and irrigation system materials.

  • We cleared the area with a digging machine. We removed the rough debris from the site,
  • According to the design and solutions we created, we measured and calculated the soil requirements,
  • The soil structure of the area had a compact composition. We needed a large amount of soil to adjust the levels, and we also needed soil to replace the poor-quality soil that we removed from the site. We brought special soil with a custom mix that was rich in minerals, permeable, and peat-heavy to the area,
  • Since we used a lot of new soil on the site, compacting and spreading it took the longest time in the entire process,
  • We wanted to create flat lawn areas in the garden. For this, we needed to build a retaining wall at the lowest point of the garden. By terracing the very sloped area in the middle, we could create a wide and level space. As always in these kinds of areas, I prefer to use wooden materials. We measured and placed orders for these materials,
  • We built a retaining wall made of wood, 120 cm high. This height wasn’t visible from the front of the garden, and from the back pedestrian path, we created a beautiful green space by planting plants in front of the retaining wall. This allowed us to create a wide green area. In the other terraced section that helped with this, we also made the terraces from wood. Between the wooden slats, we selected and planted permanent, perennial plants and special plants that don’t grow too large. We also planted colorful seasonal flowers between them,
  • For areas that required walking and short distances with heavy foot traffic, we again used wood materials,
  • In narrow areas, high-traffic zones, and around the vegetable garden, we laid a protective cover on the ground and covered it with natural stone. It also prevents weed growth, and even in a small area, it needs to have a definition and purpose,
  • We created a durable and long-lasting lawn where children could play comfortably and adults could enjoy sitting. For this, we selected and applied a sod variety that suited our desired purpose, our climate, soil composition, and sun exposure. Proper and correct slope in the lawn area is very important; water should not accumulate, and there should never be any puddles.
  • The side yard was adjacent to the neighbor's garden. We ensured privacy here by planting a hedging plant that stays green year-round,
  • We designed and implemented both a sprinkler and drip irrigation system to work at 100% efficiency. We created a detailed irrigation system based on the water requirements of the plants and their sun exposure. Considering possible future changes or additions to the garden, we provided a foundation for additional valve systems in the infrastructure. To conserve water, we used a rain sensor. Additionally, with the advancement of technology in recent years, we installed irrigation system applications on our clients' mobile phones.

03. The Result

One day before their move, we finished everything, down to the smallest detail, and handed it over. In the end, we completed another garden that received a lot of praise.Good results are never a matter of chance. A wide knowledge of materials, passion for the profession, keeping up with new developments in the field, experience, attention to detail, a sense of responsibility, high craftsmanship and material quality, creativity, and discipline always lead to successful outcomes. With correct designs, proper solutions, quality materials and workmanship, detailed solutions, and a meticulous work ethic, we completed an excellent project.
