01. The Challenge

There was a very old and dense group of trees in the area. It was a place that didn’t receive much sunlight. The soil was very hard. Since this area used to be a forested region, the trees were very close to each other. Generally, it was a shaded and semi-shaded area. Only a small part could get sunlight. We needed a different and striking design. Since we were going to create a botanical garden, we had to use a wide variety of plant species. The design should be as harmonious as possible with the natural surroundings. The structural materials we used should also be selected to match this harmony and integrity."

02. The Solution

  • We determined the soil structure of the area, the position of the trees, and the sunlight-shade conditions of the area.
  • We established an informal pathway between the trees.
  • This informal pathway design allowed us to create a longer path by passing through the spaces between the trees.
  • We created a durable grass path for walking and stepping by using gridded turf pavers
  • Instead of stone curbs, we used custom-sized galvanized separators along the edges of the path.
  • We used low-level lighting along the entire path
  • We selected a variety of plants that thrive in shaded and semi-shaded areas
  • We used the plants in groups.
  • The grass areas were irrigated with a sprinkler system, and the plant groups were arranged according to a drip irrigation system.
  • The irrigation system valves were designed to be adjustable separately for both sprinkler and drip irrigation systems, based on sun and shade conditions.
  • Ground cover was used under the plants for weed control
  • Strong mulching and slag were used for weed control
  • The pool area was designed and implemented in the largest space, ensuring it is visible from all sides and can be walked over.
  • Natural stone and wood materials were preferred in the pool to create harmony with nature.
  • A simple and minimalist design was chosen for the gazebo. A location was selected where the entire area and the pool could be viewed.
  • A special grass mix was used according to the shaded area.
03. The Result

A well-designed landscape, quality craftsmanship, and the continuous attention of an expert landscape architect at the helm resulted in a wonderful, sustainable botanical garden. It became a functional, efficient, and visually beautiful garden that was both impressive and received thanks. Although the area was not very large, it was meticulously designed and implemented from the entrance to the exit gate, creating a botanical garden. It became a garden that is easy to maintain and can preserve its beauty with proper care. The irrigation system was perfectly designed according to the plants' water needs and the shading conditions of the area, yielding great results. The diversity of plants, their water requirements, and the shading conditions of the area came together through our landscape architect’s(Sevtap Toraman )extensive knowledge and creative design, resulting in a sustainable and magnificent botanical garden that was personally thanked by the country’s President.

Our landscape architect, Sevtap Toraman, made professional trips to botanical gardens in several European countries, which greatly contributed to her success. The combination of her plant knowledge, expertise in landscape materials, creativity in design, and meticulous character resulted in a garden that was highly praised."
